Balance. We use the word a lot. Avoid too much of anything, and get enough of everything. Not so with God – at least not when it comes to grace and truth.

“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”    (John 1:14, NASB)

Jesus was full on – 100% of both. As you read the gospels, Jesus never compromised the truth. He is the Truth! At the same time, His grace and compassion were evident to all – and fully expressed in His death on the cross for our sins.

We can be tempted to swing the pendulum to one side or the other – leading to rigid legalism or sentimental licentiousness.    Truth cannot function without love, and love cannot function without truth. Lord Jesus, show us the way – Your way!
